Upholding Ethical Standards in Research
The IFMR Institutional Review Board (IRB) provides ethical oversight for research involving human participants by research centres and initiatives within the IFMR ecosystem. The IRB’s role is to help ensure that research is conducted responsibly, with appropriate safeguards for the rights, dignity, safety and wellbeing of participants.
The IRB reviews social, behavioural and economic research, experimental evaluations, and other studies involving human participants across the IFMR ecosystem. This includes research spanning areas such as social and behavioural sciences, education, health, environment and climate, anthropology and psychology.
Studies involving drugs, medical procedures, biological agents or the collection of biomarkers, including neuroimaging biomarkers, are referred for review to IFMR’s ICMR-approved ethics review body, a specialised sub-committee within the broader IRB framework.
