Dr. Shailender Swaminathan is the Director of the Sapien Labs Centre for Human Brain and Mind at Krea University. He is a health economist and policy researcher with expertise in applied econometrics, bringing more than two decades of academic and research experience from the United States and India.

Shailender returned to India after holding diverse academic and research positions at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and Brown University’s Department of Health Policy. His work has spanned several areas of health policy, including understanding the impact of health insurance expansions on healthcare utilisation and health outcomes in both the United States and India.

Most recently, he served as Dean of Arts and Sciences at Sai University. At Krea, his interests focus on bringing together cross-disciplinary perspectives to develop insights into brain and mind health that can inform impactful public policy and programmes at scale.

Shailender holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southern California and is an adjunct faculty member at Brown University.
