Dr Veena Srinivasan is the Founder and Executive Director of WELL Labs, a research and innovation organisation working to translate scientific research into real-world solutions that create livelihoods and conserve the environment. She is a socio-hydrologist with around two decades of experience working on water, environmental systems and sustainable resource management.

Prior to founding WELL Labs, she was a Senior Fellow at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), where she founded and led the Centre for Social and Environmental Innovation. Earlier, she worked at the Pacific Institute and as a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University, contributing to the development of a Global Freshwater Initiative.

Her expertise spans water systems, socio-hydrology, groundwater, urban water, river basins, sustainable resource management and water policy. She holds a PhD from Stanford University, a Master’s in Energy and Environmental Studies from Boston University, and a B.Tech in Engineering Physics from IIT Bombay. She has received several awards for her contributions to water research and development, including the 2023 International Water Association Water and Development Award for Research.
