Mukund Padmanabhan is a distinguished journalist and academic with extensive experience spanning journalism, philosophy, media law and cultural programming. He served as Editor of The Hindu between March 2016 and February 2019, following his tenure as Editor of The Hindu BusinessLine.
He holds an MPhil in Philosophy and began his career as a Lecturer at the University of Delhi before moving into journalism. He has written extensively on politics, legal affairs and literature. Prior to joining The Hindu group in 1997, he worked with Sunday Magazine in Kolkata and The Indian Express in Chennai. He has also served as Adjunct Faculty at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, where he taught media law and advanced writing to postgraduate students.
Beyond journalism and academia, he has contributed to cultural and intellectual life through his curatorial work. He curated The Hindu Theatre Fest and The Hindu November Fest, as well as The Huddle, an annual thought conclave organised by The Hindu group. These festivals and events have been held across Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and other South Indian cities.
